The city of Telgte and the fashion company Takko Fashion recently signed the contract to lease part of the premises at Orkotten 61. Following successful planning permission from the district, temporary accommodation containers for around 40 refugees are to be placed on the previously undeveloped premises.
“The accommodation of people fleeing war and expulsion is a humanitarian responsibility that we as a city want to and must fulfil. We are therefore pleased about Takko Fashion's willingness to make their premises available at short notice and without complications”, says Mayor Wolfgang Pieper. The city will now start the detailed planning, submit the building application and then begin with the development of the premises. The temporary accommodation containers are expected to be ready for occupancy by the middle of the year.
"As a local company and employer, we want to support the city in its efforts to provide a temporary home for refugees. That is why we are making our premises available for a symbolic amount of one euro", explains Tjeerd Jegen, CEO of Takko Fashion. Since the company is waiving rent payments, the city can use the planned funds to support the refugees. Among other things, a play and meeting area for the residents is to be built on the premises in addition to the living quarters. The use of the premises for accommodate refugees is initially planned for a period of two years.
