Takko Fashion: Statement on Business Engagement in Bangladesh

Takko Fashion will continue its business with suppliers and partners in Bangladesh unchanged.

Takko Fashion will continue its business with suppliers and partners in Bangladesh unchanged. While our long-term sourcing strategy for Bangladesh remains in place, we monitor the situation in the country closely and assess it daily. The top priority in this critical situation is the well-being of local people. Therefore, we are in close contact to our sourcing and CSR office in Bangladesh as well as all our business partners in order to ensure the continued compliance with human rights. The safety and health of our partners and their employees are our top priority. As a member of the Fair Wear Foundation we also receive full support of its employees in supporting our suppliers and securing safe working conditions.

Bangladesh is and remains an important production country for us. We will not change our share of procurement in Bangladesh due to the current situation. Also, we will not withdraw any quantities as doing so could result in economic difficulties for our local partners and their employees. We aim to avoid this in the current challenging situation. Also, we will not impose any penalties for late deliveries caused by the political situation in the country.

“We feel closely connected to our partners in Bangladesh and our thoughts are with all people in the country during this critical situation. We hope for the negotiations on the future of the country to be peaceful and constructive. In any case, we will continue to maintain our partnership-based relationships with our suppliers and production facilities and will offer flexibility and the opportunity for a trustful dialog wherever it is necessary.” – Sebastian Weber, Chief Product Officer Takko Fashion

Our long-term commitment in Bangladesh

Takko Fashion works with 84 production sites in Bangladesh. We rely on close, partnership-based relationships with our suppliers. We are therefore in regular contact with our business partners, whether it is via our local country team in Bangladesh with 13 employees and our CSR team in Bad Homburg, Germany. As a signatory to the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry, we are committed to building safety and thus the protection of the employees in textile factories in Bangladesh. As a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, we also implement Worker Education Programs in all factories in Bangladesh to further strengthen employees' rights and social dialogue in the production facilities.

About the situation in Bangladesh

After weeks of street protests in Bangladesh, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had ruled the country in an increasingly authoritarian manner, has left Bangladesh. According to local media, several hundred people died in violent clashes between demonstrators and police and in violence following Hasina's flight. An interim government has since been formed under the leadership of Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus. However, the unrest in the country continues.
